Increases the console’s fan speed by a selectable percentage of the demand.
This module allows the user to adjust the amount of extra fan speed by means of a small, 10-position switch, from 10% to 100%, in 10% increments. The 100% position doubles the speed at which the fan spins over its speed without this accelerator. So, in a standard, unmodified, console the fan will typically spin at about 20% of full speed when cold; with this module fitted and set to 100% it will actually spin at 40% of full speed.
As it warms up and more cooling is required the console will ask the fan to spin faster; the module will continuously follow this demand, always adding the set percentage. So, if the console demands (say) 40% spin speed the resulting rate with the module fitted and set to 100% will be 80% of full speed.
In use, because the initial fan speed (and hence the airflow) is greater than normal, the console will take longer to warm to a temperature that requires additional cooling, and when it does it will be cooled more quickly, thereby decreasing the thermal stress on the APU which is a major cause of console failure.
Modules for the Xbox, PS3 and PS5 look very similar, however Sony changed their minds a few times regarding the type of connector to use for the fan when it came to the PS4. This resulted in the necessity to produce three different variations for that series of console: for the first generation (models CUH-10xxxx, & CUH-11xxxx); the PS4 Slim (models CUH-2xxxxx); and finally for the later full size PS4 and PS4 Pro.
Whilst the connectors for the later PS4's are identical to the connectors of the PS3, the wire arrangement was swapped, so although the modules can be physically inserted into the alternate console, switching the power on will instantly destroy the module. In short - don't swap them! That's why the PS4 Pro and PS5 basic modules are brown rather than green.
